Megan and I finally had a chance to take the tour of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (the man whose dream it was to turn a desert into a world class city), the Grand Mosque is the 8th largest mosque in the world. Sheikh Zayed wanted to…

The Sounds of F1
F1 weekend wasn’t just about racing – there were lots of concerts and performances to take in. Trying to really throw ourselves into the experience (and, in part, thanks to Meg’s cool boss), we took a stab at seeing 4 performances in 4 nights. Thursday – To help fuel excitement for F1 weekend, Abu Dhabi…
The Race!
Over the weekend, Megan and I took in some Formula 1 racing at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. It was our first time watching live F1 racing and we were not disappointed! The action is fast and overall racing facility is impressive. Last year, Abu Dhabi built the track on Yas Island so…
Halloween
Well, we still don’t have internet access at home but we are close! The installers came on Wednesday to hook us up. About midway through the install, they realized the building number had been entered into their system incorrectly. So while all the technology and infrastructure are in place to give us access, a ridiculous…
Starting to Look Like a Home
So after a few deliveries and a quick run to Carrefour (European chain that is like Walmart only better food selection and higher prices), our new apartment is slowly starting to look like a home. There is still a ton more we need, but it’s coming along. Besides the huge windows and views, the best…
Room with a View

Our schedule was jammed packed and there was no room for error. After meeting with our agent, we arrived at the landlord’s office around 8:30am. We needed to…
Brunching like a Local
Back home, brunch is a popular social activity on Sunday mornings – a way to wind down and prepare for the week ahead. In Abu Dhabi, however, brunch is popular on Fridays (which is like their Saturday). And one of the hottest places to have brunch is a place called “Pearls and Caviar”, a waterfront…
Oktoberfest
Yesterday we went to an Abu Dhabi Oktoberfest, which was held at the One to One Hotel. The hotel itself is really nice and probably only about 2 miles from our new apartment. (It’s always good to take note of the nearby hotels because they are the only places that serve booze!) The event itself…
Riding along the beach
In the heart of downtown is a road called the Corniche, which runs parallel to the water. On the weekends, it’s a popular place for people to hang out at the beach, grab some food or lounge in the grassy park along the street opposite the beach. We haven’t been to an actual beach yet…
