Deemed the Garden City, Al Ain (or “the spring” in English) is the birthplace of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the first president of the United Arab Emirates, and it has the country’s highest number of Emirati nationals. There are a bunch of cultural, nature-inspired and modern activities (aka, the mall) on offer. We chose, with an Edelman colleague Jen, to hit up the camel market (last of its kind in the UAE), Al Ain National Museum, the Oasis park, and Al Jahili Fort.
Check out our adventures below…
About an hour west of Abu Dhabi (orange), Al Ain (blue) is technically still part of the Abu Dhabi Emirate.
We arrived at the camel market at noon, after all the sales and bartering for the day were done
Totally normal day…camel in a pick up truck…
One of many forts, this one was outside the Al Ain Museum
A sign just outside the Oasis entrance….ummm, who else is there?
The Oasis provided a cool, calm break from the city
No expense is spared in this town…hand laid brick at every intersection
Al Jahili Fort is one of the best preserved due to an extensive renovation
We had a bird’s eye view atop Al Jahili Fort
Jen was a bit daring in climbing the Al Jahili Fort wall
