As we’ve mentioned in previous posts, we came to Abu Dhabi with three travel goals. Three places we wanted to experience that would otherwise be a tiresome journey from back home. At the time, we didn’t think we would get to hit all three, but as of August, we were fortunate enough to reach the first two: the pyramids and South African safari. Both were amazing!
Thanks to a long Eid Al-Adha holiday weekend, we crossed the final place off the list – the Taj Mahal in Agra, India!
Our trusty driver Viki greeted us and served as a great host in Agra and Delhi
We had a little morning entertainment on our walk to the Taj – monkeys!
Line to get in took about 30 minutes – men on one side, women on another
We made it!!!
Our favorite shot of the day…
Our guide for the day urged us to do all the classic Taj poses
Although the grounds are exposed to the elements, we had to wear shoe covers around/inside the masoleum
Another view of the main masoleum
An “illegal” photo of the masoleum and replicas…the real tombs are below ground
Tons of detailed craftsmanship went into each nook of this place
Everything was hand-carved and inlaid with semi-precious stones
This detail, meant to look like earrings, was painstakenly carved by hand
Sadly, we are still waiting on the endorsement fees from Il Forno’s
From the site of the Black Taj, the Taj Mahal creator’s tomb-to-be (too bad his son stopped him to keep more inheritance $$$)
Finishing the long day like a local – with a Kingfisher beer!
